Studio Notes · Sept 2026
Hello all,
Hello fall, rain, and chillier days.
I want to extend an invitation to those who live in the Philly area and offer you all a peek into the life of the studio at the moment.
These days there are several things happening in the studio at once: testing glaze and underglaze combinations for the next batch,
carving new wall pieces by hand,
and making a small color study most studio days.
Slowly, the new pieces are taking shape.
Not every result is to my liking. But a conversation I heard recently reminded me that making "bad work" is essential for “good process.” And the chorus lines from a book I’ve read numerous times with my 4-year-old kiddo chants away in my mind:
Can’t go over it. Can’t go under it. Gotta go through it!
All of this is building toward the city-wide Open Studio Tour on October 10–11, 12–6pm organized annually by CFEVA. My studio mate Riley and I (along with a number of other artists in our building) are getting ready for another weekend of sharing and conversation — it would be wonderful to host you all if you're in town.
Herman Street Studios (Germantown), 20 E Herman St, Studio 105, Philadelphia, PA 19144. (Note: we've moved - now on the 1st floor, not the basement, if you've visited before.)
I'd love to see you there.
Hoşçakalın 🧿, Seher
Until next month, hoşçakalın!
